Blood & its Components
Meet the Team Inside Your Blood
What Is Blood Made Of?
Think of blood as a special “delivery team” working inside your body. Each member has a different job, but together they keep you healthy and strong.
The main team members are:
- Red Blood Cells (RBCs)
- White Blood Cells (WBCs)
- Platelets
- Plasma
The Role of Each Component
Component | Structure and Description |
---|---|
Red Blood Cells |
Tiny carriers that grab onto oxygen and deliver it to every cell in your body. Bioconcave disc shape whith no nucleus. They contain a protein called haemoglobin that helps them carry oxygen. |
White Blood Cells |
Think of WBCs as bodyguards. They help protect your body from germs (like tiny invaders), keeping you healthy. Large cells containing a large nucleus. |
Platelets |
Platelets are like safety patches. They help stop bleeding by forming a plug if you cut yourself. Cell fragments. |
Plasma |
Plasma is the watery part of your blood. It’s like the river that carries RBCs, WBCs, platelets, and lots of important nutrients, waste, and signals (hormones) around your body. Yellowish liquid. |

Red blood cells = Oxygen carriers.
White blood cells = Bodyguards.
Platelets = The “stop-bleeding” crew.
Plasma = The liquid highway for all the other components.
